This Life of Wonder

This Life of Wonder: A Family’s Journey Through Life, Death and Beyond

By Phebee Dalziel and Inessa Burdich

This Life of Wonder is a spellbinding narrative of one family’s history—told not only through letters, photos, and archives, but also through the soul journeys of its members after death. With clarity, warmth and extraordinary insight, the book offers a new form of storytelling: a blend of vividly imagined biography (‘faction’) and rigorous spiritual research, inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s science of the spirit.

Beginning with a suitcase of annotated family photographs sent to the author by her great-uncle Jimmy, the story unfolds across generations—through war and love, silence and sacrifice, humour and heartbreak. Each chapter explores the life of a family member, followed by a spiritual inquiry into their postmortem experience. Some are found trapped in grief or guilt; others are radiant with peace or already preparing to return to earth. All are met with compassion, and their stories reveal how profoundly the living and the dead remain connected.

Guided by the spiritual researcher Inessa Burdich, and shaped with the author’s lyrical and honest voice, This Life of Wonder brings together a constellation of souls whose destinies are intertwined. Their stories form a karmic tapestry: interwoven, surprising, deeply human, and often astonishingly redemptive.

Accessible to general readers as well as those drawn to anthroposophy, this is a book for anyone who has wondered what becomes of those we love after death—and how we, the living, might continue the conversation. At once poignant, enthralling, and gently humorous, This Life of Wonder offers a unique glimpse beyond the veil—and shows how the threads of spirit and story are never truly broken.

What followed became This Life of Wonder. Guided by Inessa and shaped by her own unfolding voice, Phebee Dalziel writes her emergent narrative with lyricism, honesty, and care—bringing the invisible to light, and offering readers stories filled with depth, humour, tenderness, and hope.
